Recruitment Policy
At our Sepon gold and copper operation in Laos, preference for employment is given to Lao candidates (particularly those from our immediate operating environment) and internal candidates.
Expatriates are employed wherever the required experience or expertise cannot be sourced from within Laos. Expatriate vacancies will be advertised on this website as well as in selected Australian media.
General Conditions of Employment
Salary and Benefits
- Lao employees are paid in accordance with the Lao Labour Law, with Junior staff entitled to overtime payments for additional hours worked.
- Salaries for Expatriates are inclusive of superannuation and reflect all hours worked including reasonable overtime and any additional work conducted while on field breaks or other leave. Expatriate employees, that meet all overseas conditions, pay a Lao tax flat rate of 10% of gross salary, rather than the Australian tax rate.
- In addition to salary, employees are entitled to share in the LXML Bonus, which is dependent upon achievement of pre-established company targets in the areas of Safety, Environment, Community, Production and Costs.
- Senior Expatriate and Lao employees are also eligible to participate in various share ownership schemes.
- Medical insurance is provided for all employees.
Rosters and Working Hours
Senior management employees are based in Vientiane, the Lao capital, and commute on a 10 days on / 4 days off roster by company aircraft. Other managers and superintendents have the option of residing in Vientiane and generally work a 14 days on / 7 days off.
Expatriate employees fly in and out of Australia or other regional locations on a 26 days on / 16 days off roster.
Sepon Operations Site Facilities
Accommodation and Mess Facilities
Site accommodation is located at two camps - Namkok and Padan - and ranges in style from single room through to 6-man block timber housing, all with ablutions.
Catering is provided by contract company Sodexho who serve Western and Lao/Asian meals at regular times in pleasant dining facilities and provide housekeeping and laundry services every two days.
Recreational facilities include a fully-equipped gym, sports fields, volleyball and badminton courts. TV, snooker, table-tennis, walking, aerobics and organised sports competitions are popular pastimes.
Medical
Medical facilities and fully qualified Lao medical staff are available on site, 24 hours per day. The Sepon medical clinic offers state of the art facilities to care for the workforce and includes 7 patient plus two emergency beds, an X-ray room and laboratory.
